#232 (RS 500)
Just Like A Woman/ Obviously 5 Believers by Bob Dylan

Label: Columbia 43792 Year: 1966
Factory sleeve included
Condition: M- $26.00
Just Like A Woman/ Obviously 5 BelieversBelieve it or not, this is only the fourth original pressing of "Just Like A Woman" I've ever had in the store since opening in 2001. Not that I haven't been looking! This great single features two tracks from Dylan's classic (first) double album, "Blonde On Blonde." The A side is an edited version of a much longer album track: 2:56 vs. 4:52! Note: This beautiful, Near Mint copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels and vinyl (styrene). The audio sounds pristine Mint!

Note that the A side inspired Rolling Stone magazine to include this single at #232 in their list of the Top 500 Songs. Which made me wonder... What Dylan singles did Dave Marsh and/or Rolling Stone include in their respective lists? He had so few compared to acts like the Beatles or Rolling Stones, and not many were actual "hits" (this one, for example, fizzled at #33... Top 40 technically, but not many copies were made). I've never done this for Dylan, so here goes (showing Marsh then RS rankings):

  • Like A Rolling Stone (#7)(#1)
  • I Want You (#94)
  • Sooner Or Later (One Of Us Must Know) (#208)
  • Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (B side of "I Want You") (#243)
  • Positively 4th Street (#326)(#206)

Adding to this list, Rolling Stone magazine includes the following additional Dylan singles:

  • Tangled Up In Blue (#68)
  • Knockin' On Heaven's Door (#192)
  • Just Like A Woman (#232)
  • Subterranean Homesick Blues (#340)

Adding to these lists, I would contribute the following two singles, at a minimum, as 2-star recommendations from Classic 45s:

  • Lay Lady Lay
  • I Threw It All Away

There! Now wasn't that fun? Jeesh! And I wonder where my time goes... :-)
