Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
Great song, great voice! I'm delighted to be able to add such a nice original 45 of this early "Soft Rock" (or perhaps "Country Rock") classic to the store.
Coffey was a session guitar player for numerous Motown acts, including the Temptations and the Jackson 5. A full year before his breakthrough hit 'Scorpio,' he released this dynamite track on Sussex 208, and then it was rereleased on Sussex 237.
Both of these uptempo tracks are so good I'm having a hard time deciding which I like best, but I finally decided on the A side to make an mp3 "snippet." I assume Marsh was a studio concoction, and I don't think there are any other Marsh singles. If you like Bubblegum pop, you've got two more great ones to chew on!
This is a gorgeous, faithful cover of the Shadow Morton-produced Shangri-Las record of the previous decade. It's particularly well suited for Midler's voice, and she doesn't disappoint! One weird thing is the writer credits on this release. On the Shangri-Las original, the A side is credited solely to Harry Nilsson. Here, Nilsson's just one of three co-writers.
Here for your listening pleasure are two blissfully joyous, uptempo soul tracks. I'm slightly partial to the B side... have a listen to the mp3 "snippet"!
The B side of this single is what earns it 2 stars from us: It's a beautiful blend of styles from Garage Rock, Sunshine Pop, and Power Pop. Take a listen to the snippet and see if it doesn't grab you the way it does me.
